Heavy fine should be imposed to tail gaiting. I think the speed radar technology can be also used to detect tail gating or cars not respecting safety distance. speed radars can detect the cars passing by a single point, so the interval between 2 cars can easily determine their distance and the car behind should be heavily fined.
Tail gating is extremely dangerous more than speeding. Slow cars on the left lane should not be a excuse for tailgating or flashing lights. In an ideal world, the left lane should be used only to overtake, but this is not the case in many parts of the world and UAE is not an exception, ultimately tailgating or lights flashing is not a solution for this and it is an instigation for an accident and this must be avoided.
I do agree with much of this, however, there comes an issue with this.
I do agree in that keeping a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle infront is extreamly important.
However, one thing that always happens in this country is that, if you keep a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle in front, another car will come into that space. In many cases, you see vehicles trying to sqeeze into a space thats barely even big enough.
I myself have been involved in a minor accident some time back where, I did have distance infront of me during slow moving traffic. But a car decided to force his way into that space without even indicating to do so, and then slamming the brakes to a dead stop. I managed to stop, but the car behind me didnt…thus pushing me into the car in front.
Yes, taildgating is rediculously dangerous. But how can you judge who is at fault? Maybe at first glance it looks like a car is tailgating, but what if the truth is the car in front actually just cut in making it seem like the car behind is tailgating?
What if most important in my opinion is that, though it will take time for change to be visible, is to properly educate drivers of this country, and to help them understand safe driving.
